Set & Forget Mowing Plans let you relax while we keep your section under control. Once your plan is in place, you can rest easy knowing your section will be maintained on a regular schedule that suits your budget and needs. Our services are tailored to the seasonal grass growth experienced in Te Anau and to help clients comply with council.
Fortnightly
~20 mows/growth season
Perfect for section owners who prefer an attractive lawn finish. Mown using a ride-on mower, lawn clippings can either be caught and removed or side discharged. Regular, scheduled mowing keeps the job efficient, making this the most affordable option per mow.
Monthly
~9 mows/growth season
Ideal for keeping your section under control year-round without the financial commitment of fortnightly mowing. This option maintains a tidy park-like lawn appearance and manages seasonal growth effectively. Monthly mowing offers a practical balance between mowing frequency and overall cost.
Less Frequent
~4 mows/growth season
Timed to match seasonal growth and suited to section owners comfortable with longer grass between mows. Individual mow costs are higher due to longer grass, slower mowing, and increased machine wear, but overall costs remain lower thanks to fewer mows.
*Initial clearance of overgrown sections and infrequent mows are quoted separately. These jobs are typically priced higher due to slower mowing conditions and increased machine wear, but offer excellent value for the transformation achieved.
About Us
Craig & Jill de Bettencor
Big Trim is a family owned business that draws on the practical skills and customer service experience we have honed over the years. We enjoy working together as a husband and wife team and have complimentary skills in the business. We purchased Smiling Te Anau Gardens in 2020 and have since re-branded to Big Trim. Prior to buying this business we owned and operated a Qualmark 4 Star Motel in Te Anau for 11 years. Before that we owned and operated a Sheep and Deer farm approximately 10 minutes drive from Te Anau on Kakapo Road. Craig also operated an Agricultural Contracting business, making hay and winter feed for local farmers and planting crops for winter stock feed.

Craig is a long-time local, having lived in Te Anau since the age of three with stints in Southland and Australia working as a young adult. Jill grew up on Molesworth Station in the high country near the top of the South Island, and completed an Applied Science degree at Massey before becoming a Te Anau local in 2001. Our family includes two teenage sons, a mini fox terrier and a very grumpy grey cat! Our oldest son Blake designed our Big Trim logo, vehicle signage and marketing materials we can be proud of.​
