Craig & Jill de Bettencor
Big Trim is a family owned business that draws on the practical skills and customer service experience we have honed over the years. We enjoy working together as a husband and wife team and have complimentary skills in the business. We purchased Smiling Te Anau Gardens in 2020 and have since re-branded to Big Trim. Prior to buying this business we owned and operated a Qualmark 4 Star Motel in Te Anau for 11 years. Before that we owned and operated a Sheep and Deer farm approximately 10 minutes drive from Te Anau on Kakapo Road. Craig also operated an Agricultural Contracting business, making hay and winter feed for local farmers and planting crops for winter stock feed.

Craig is a long-time local, having lived in Te Anau since the age of three with stints in Southland and Australia working as a young adult. Jill grew up on Molesworth Station in the high country near the top of the South Island, and completed an Applied Science degree at Massey before becoming a Te Anau local in 2001. Our family includes two teenage sons, a mini fox terrier and a very grumpy grey cat! Our oldest son Blake designed our Big Trim logo, vehicle signage and marketing materials we can be proud of.​

I have 2 properties in Te Anau, 1 has a tenant and 1 is our escape from the farm 2 hours away. We have been using Big Trim since Sept 2022. Craig looks after both properties for us. I love the fact that I get a before and after photo on every visit with a date stamp, Craig also lets me know if something is out of place or not quite right as he knows we are not around, this provides me with peace of mind that someone is keeping an eye on my property for me. If there is any extra taming of the flaxes or tidying of the walkways it's never a problem, I send Craig a message and he gets it done and sends me a photo on messenger, Jill sends out invoices and statements on Xero monthly….
